DAY 1 Essence Fest Celebrates 40 Years of Magazine
We arrived in New Orleans the night before the Essence Music Festival began at the Convention Center. The next morning people filled the Morial Convention Center for music, group dances, performances, give-aways, a cultural bazaar of Afrocentric merchandise, book signings and the best food this side of the Mississippi. It looked like a procession heading into the main entrance and as I entered under the 40th Anniversary Essence archway I knew I was experiencing an expanded and rich display of talent, cultural expertise and beauty.
Later that night at the Superdome Charlie Wilson stopped to praise God in the middle of his reprise of his hits with the Gap Band. Janet. Janet. I had to say her name twice because she rocked the dome with her brilliant repertoire of hits and electric performance! More to come….
